VII TRANSATLANTIC SUMMIT

Without freedom of expression, there is no democracy.
Freedom of expression, enshrined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is a fundamental pillar of democratic life.
The assassination of Charlie Kirk highlighted the serious challenges faced today by those who defend human dignity and fundamental freedoms.
More and more, the peaceful expression of our convictions is being stigmatized as “hate speech” or “extremism,” while legislative initiatives presented as “regulation” risk enabling censorship and fostering a culture of cancellation that undermines democratic coexistence.
Convinced that it is possible to reverse this trend and promote a renewed global commitment to freedom — particularly to freedom of expression — we will gather with our friends and allies for the 7th Transatlantic Summit at the European Parliament on February 2–3, 2026.
This Summit will provide a decisive opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to freedom of expression and to develop a coordinated response that ensures a future where dialogue and open debate can truly flourish. From Brussels, political and civic leaders, senior government officials, legislators, journalists, and experts will send a clear message: defending freedom of expression means strengthening democracy.
