The Political Network for Values (PNfV) is back with its Transatlantic Dialogues and next Friday, September 17, will address the need for political support for motherhood by governments and the State.
We will talk, in this online event, with Margarita de la Pisa, MEP and author of a courageous motion for a resolution that protects and supports mothers in the European Union (EU). We will also listen to Conrado Gimenez, president of the Madrina Foundation, who will present his successful experience in effective interventions support to mothers in vulnerable situations in Spain.
De la Pisa’s motion for a resolution emphasizes that “motherhood is a good in itself” and that women must be respected in their “natural desire to be a mother and form a family.”
It points out that the “vocation to be a mother” is currently hampered by multiple factors and calls on the EU to promote motherhood as a “proper good for women, the family and society”, and encourage a greater presence of fathers in the home.
The text requests that the European Commission – which holds the executive power and the legislative initiative of the EU – promote, among the Member States, public policies that guarantee the basic needs of each family and that offer tangible support to mothers, not only during the gestation and first years of life of their children but, also, during the period of education of the children.
