“Más Cinco” (Plus Five) is a film that celebrates life and the testimony of those who ‘spend’ it on behalf of others. Produced and directed by Luis C. Lagos (Madre Ven, 2022), it will hit Spanish theaters on Friday, March 28, 2025, distributed by European Dreams Factory. You can see here the list of cities and theaters where it will be screened in that country.
This Spanish feature film is scripted by Benjamin Lorenzo (La Noche del 24, 2022) and is a breath of fresh air in the cinema environment. It has been made with collective financing and has adopted a very unique format: from a fictitious premise, it presents five champions as “characters” who in real life “consume” their lives in the defense and promotion of their fellow man, because they understand the great value of all human life.
Our dear friends and members of Political Network for Values, Margarita de la Pisa, mother of nine children and member of the European Parliament, and Jaime Mayor Oreja, former Minister of the Interior of Spain, honorary president of our network and tireless defender of life, participate as “characters” in the feature film.
We have spoken with its idealizer, Luis C. Lagos, and he explains that “the film wants to bring hope”. This is the complete interview:
Luis, what is “Más Cinco” about?
“Más Cinco” (Plus Five) tells how Juan (Antonio Reyes) brings together a group of people from the world of cinema at Maite’s house (Assumpta Serna), with the idea of proposing them to shoot a pro-life film. Here, all kinds of inconveniences, clichés, excuses and comic situations arise. Neither the producer (Juan Rueda), nor the director (Daniel Ramos-Lorenzo), nor the scriptwriter (Javier Lorenzo) seem willing to sign up for the project.
So it tells the story of how a pro-life film is on its way to being aborted?
Yes, but there is more to it. It is a docudrama: fiction gives way to five testimonies of life shocking for their greatness and generosity: a family that takes in children, another that takes care of the children of others, a foundation that helps women, an MEP mother of nine children and a family with a sick daughter.
Tell us a little more…
For years we wanted to make a pro-life film but we couldn’t find a way to approach the subject, because we didn’t want to deal with it from the point of view of aggressions against life. We wanted a more positive approach, so we chose to present five real stories of people who give their lives for others. Knowing these testimonies helps us to love life and gives us hope.
The film also has a bit of comedy…
Yes, we combine these stories with a cheerful and funny fictional plot, with a lively and lighthearted approach. We want the people who see it to have fun.
Why make a film like this?
To bring a little hope. Also to give an example of evangelization to my children and to have a good time doing something out of our routine. It’s a very fun apostolate, sacrificial, but fun.
How long did it take you to produce it?
It is almost two years of work in which we have faced multiple vicissitudes. But the film is finished and I think it has turned out very well. It will be released in Spain on Friday, March 28. What we need most now is diffusion and that people go to see it. It is a challenge to make a space in the social networks, there is a lot of saturation, but we are confident we can do it.
