The international community must urgently act to restore freedom in Venezuela

Statement En

At this critical moment for Venezuela, the Political Network for Values reaffirms its full support for Edmundo Gonzalez, who should have taken office today as president elect, and rejects the illegitimate investiture of Nicolas Maduro.

Maduro is an usurper who defies the will and the clamor of the Venezuelan people. The international community must not remain indifferent. Venezuelans, have peacefully over many years, done all they could to free themselves from the yoke of a regime that systematically violates human dignity and fundamental freedoms. Without urgent, concerted and conclusive action by the international community, Venezuela will never regain its freedom.

We urge democratic governments and multilateral organizations to immediately take decisive and articulated action to restore freedom in Venezuela and prevent the dictator from maintaining the usurpation. The leaders of the free countries of the Region have a fundamental role in this process and the OAS, the European Union and the UN should support their efforts.

The restoration of freedom in Venezuela must be a global priority. The Venezuelan people have the right to live in freedom.
