The VI Transatlantic Summit “For Liberty and the Culture of Life” of the Political Network for Values (PNfV) will be held in the Senate of Spain, as ratified by the board of directors of that institution last Tuesday, October 8.
The board of the High Chamber overturned an appeal by the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) against the authorization that this same body gave in July for the assignment of a room for the summit. The PSOE’s petition was voted on and rejected by 4 votes to 3. Five other petitions filed by left-wing parliamentary groups were shelved.
In the middle of this year, PNfV asked the Senate for the cession of a room to hold the VI Transatlantic Summit on December 2nd, in which political representatives, parliamentarians, specialists and civic leaders from America, Europe and Africa will participate. The authorization was unanimously approved by the Senate on July 17, with the consent of three PSOE senators.
The Socialist government only became aware of this in October and, through four ministers and its Senate bench, tried to cancel the assignment. Although they stated that they would do “everything necessary” to prevent the summit from taking place, the High Chamber rejected the pressure.
The request for the transfer was made by PNfV as a non-profit civil entity, without the need for the intervention of any parliamentary group, and was made in strict compliance with Senate regulations. The assignment of the room does not imply any public cost, since the Chamber does not finance or collaborate with the expenses of the summit.
