The II Transatlantic Summit brought together members of the European Parliament and national legislators from Europe, Latin America, North America and Africa. The inauguration of the summit was led by Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, Jaime Mayor Oreja, President of the Political Network for Values, and Lalma Andrikiene, member of the European Parliament. The central theme was Person, Family and Society: Global Challenges, Global Responses, and brought together more than 100 politicians, civil society leaders, academics and young leaders from 30 countries.
The participants highlighted issues related to marriage, the family, human life, human dignity, religious freedom and freedom of conscience in international organizations. Jaime Mayor Oreja, affirmed that “from a liquid society that is undermining its own foundations, the weak and politically correct thinking demands a police of thought to delegitimize and marginalize the heterodox, but we will not allow ourselves to be devastated by the New Order World nor by reactive extremism, we must respond from the values of the Greek-Latin Jewish-Christian legacy of Western culture”.
The program of activities provided an opportunity for politicians, academics and civil society leaders to share their experience on emerging issues and promote inspiring policy initiatives for a global agenda.
