Brussels |<\/span> The European Parliament\u2019s FEMM Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality is going to meet on 10-11th May this week for discussing the draft Resolution of MEP Mati\u0109<\/a><\/span>, which presents abortion as a “fundamental right” and calls Member States to abolish conscience clause, threatening fundamental right to life and freedom of conscience.<\/p>\n

The text affirms that the fact that some of the EU Member States “still have laws prohibiting abortion except in strictly defined circumstances \u2026 is a violation of human rights and a form of gender-based violence”. The draft resolution is going to be discussed and voted in the European Parliament on 17th May.<\/p>\n

The PNfV rejected the attempt to consider the false \u201cright to abortion\u201d as a human right. Abortion is in no way part of the accepted fundamental principles and laws of the European Union. It violates the fundamental rights to life and freedom of conscience and its imposition would infringe the principle of subsidiarity.<\/p>\n

Also, attention should be paid to the Committee of Women\u2019s Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament to respect the values set out in the EU\u2019s founding documents and the fact that each Member State has the sovereign right to act on its own convictions in these matters. The consequences of the report are misleading, and it promotes a “culture of death” instead of defending life.<\/p>\n

The Political Network for Values calls the members of FEMM Committee to bravely reject the report and recover the core values of the European Union<\/a><\/span> such as the respect of life, that is the basis of European peace.<\/p>\n
