The Political Network for Values begins with an initiative of Jaime Mayor Oreja, minister of Internal Affairs in Spain (1996-2001) and member of the European Parliament (2004-2014) as well as the coordinated efforts of a generous number of legislators from Europe, the United States, and Mexico. Before the increasing problems in the social and political environments that affect essential questions, they decided to create a transatlantic effort of legislators regarding life, the family, marriage, and fundamental rights.<\/p>\n
After some\u00a0bilateral\u00a0meetings, the\u00a0participating\u00a0legislators\u00a0 reaffirmed\u00a0the\u00a0necessity\u00a0of supporting international\u00a0efforts for the defense of these shared values, in order to address international threats and problems\u00a0simultaneously.\u00a0In December of 2014<\/strong>, the first Transatlantic Summit took place in the headquarters of the United Nations in New York, celebrating the\u00a020th Anniversary\u00a0of the\u00a0Year of the Family<\/strong>.\u00a0This event formalized the Political Network for Values with a platform\u00a0focused on international meetings\u00a0and networking. The importance of the problems of\u00a0interest\u00a0of numerous experts and\u00a0annalists\u00a0translated into a meeting of more than 60 legislators and another 120 academics and representatives of the\u00a0civil society. A reference point of the new initiative, they defined a Dialogue of\u00a0Shared\u00a0Values\u00a0which have been ratified by the members.<\/p>\n Having obtained the result and a positive response from the legislators after the first summit, the second Regional Summit was inspired in\u00a02015.\u00a0The organizing committee has\u00a0identified\u00a0the\u00a0necessity\u00a0 of\u00a0focusing\u00a0not only\u00a0in a\u00a0transatlantic\u00a0way,\u00a0(Europe- America) but also in the challenges that the legislators face at a regional level. From this perspective, the Regional Summit of the Americas<\/strong> was realized with a\u00a0particular focus on the reality of the American continent.
